When children consistently miss school in the early grades, the effects can last a lifetime—lower reading proficiency, reduced graduation rates, and fewer opportunities in adulthood. That’s why United Way of South Central Indiana is partnering with local schools, Families Forever, and county justice systems to help students and families overcome the barriers that keep them from attending school.

United Way of South Central Indiana’s Young Women United and Young Men United mentoring program provides weekly, school-based mentorship for middle and high school students in Lawrence County. The program pairs students—identified by school counselors—with caring adult mentors.

Bloomington, Ind. (April 2, 2024) – Today, Comcast and United Way of South Central Indiana announced a donation of 100 laptops to Bloomington residents to help accelerate digital equity efforts in the community.
